Living Eucharist Sunday

Having GATHERED in Jesus's Name and been NOURISHED by His Body and Blood, we are SENT as individuals and as a community to be Christ for others in the world.

Recognizing that the foundational community for answering this call is the parish community, Bishop Lynch has designated the Fifth Sunday of Easter (May 2, 2010) to be observed as Living Eucharist Sunday in the Diocese of St. Petersburg.  In music; homilies; the Prayers of the Faithful; and in ministry fairs, displays, and presentations we will share the Living Eucharist invitation to serve with our parishes, inviting all to become more involved in spreading the Good News of the Gospel.

This will include:

  • Inviting those who have left the Church to come home.
  • Sharing our faith with those who may not have heard the Good News of Jesus Christ.
  • Reaching out in minsitry to the poor and/or marginalized

This is especially appropriate to celebrate at this time in the Easter Season as it anticipates the great feast of Pentecost in which the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples and they began their public ministry in the name of the risen Christ.

The Office of Worship has prepared resources to assist in preparations for Living Eucharist Sunday which are available on their website.

Living Eucharist

is a diocesan pastoral initiative begun by the Most Rev. Robert N. Lynch, Bishop of St. Petersburg, to foster a deeper experience and understanding of Eucharist - to paraphrase St. Augustine: "we are called to be what we receive." This catechesis continues with the implementation of the new translation of the Mass.
